Permit Steps
In Minnesota, obtaining a pistol permit-to-carry requires three basic steps:
- Take a qualified permit-to-carry instruction course, such as the one offered by Headwaters Permit to Carry Training. You will receive a training completion certificate at the end of the course.
- Fill out an application for the pistol permit-to-carry. Headwaters Permit to Carry Training provides the form.
- Submit your application, a copy of the completion certificate, a copy of your driver's license, and the application fee to the county sheriff's or police chief's office in which you reside.
Currently, most counties charge the legal maximum fee allowed to process permit-to-carry applications.
- $100 for first-time permits
- $75 for renewals
Hubbard County charges $50 to process first-time permits and renewal applications.
Please contact the sheriff's office of the county you reside in for the latest application fee amount. Contact information is listed below by county.
